It may sound crazy, but I have the same insecurities as most of the women that get in front of my camera. I recently spoke to a client who asked, “Have you ever been in front of the camera.” I’ve always believed that empathy is the key to photographing people. So what are you afraid of when you’re in front of a camera?
What Scares Me
Even though I’m a professional photographer these are some of the things that go on in my head when I have my picture taken. Are they the same for you?
- Is the photographer capturing me at my best?
- Do I look good in this outfit; does anything look off?
- Glasses or no glasses?
- Were my eyes closed in that one?
- How does my face look in this light?
- Am I squinting?
- Where should my hands go?
- Where should I be looking?
- Did that smile look genuine?
- I look tense don’t I?
- This pose feels so uncomfortable; does it even look right?
- Work, work, work work…No RiRi, not now! Get out of my head RiRi. Get out!
What Scares You?
So, what goes on in your head before or during getting your picture taken. We’d love to hear from you so we can make sure the women that get in front of our camera always feel relaxed, comfortable, and able to bring out their best selves.
