Themed Photoshoot Inspiration: Indoor Relaxed Lifestyle Fashion Portrait

You’ve probably seen quite a few indoor, relaxed lifestyle fashion portrait images on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and Tumblr. Maybe you saw something similar on your favourite blog or from an Instagrammer you love to follow. If you never thought that you could be photographed the same way, think again!

THE RELAXED EDITORIAL LIFESTYLE LOOK

You can do it too; you can star in the same types of images yourself! All you need is the right attitude, clothes, and photographer! To get the look you need to change your attitude (especially if you never thought you could possibly pull off this sort of look).

CLOTHING

Getting comfortable starts with picking the right clothing. Find something you feel good in, that you could easily spend a day in, and that looks great on you.

Once you’ve done you’ll be half way there. The other half is to just let the photos happen. You don’t have to try in this style. Just be yourself. This look typically requires a relaxed face and pose.

POSING

Feel free to slouch, sit on the floor, lean on your hands, rest your head on a pillow, or wrap a blanket around you. Just as you’d look if no one was watching you, there should be no tension in your body.  Think of it like eating food by yourself versus eating in front of a date or reading a book in your living room versus in a cafe full of people.

Your awareness will be different. Posing in a relaxed, lifestyle fashion portrait requires you to throw down those walls and be yourself!

FACIAL EXPRESSION

With that in mind, your face will need fit that same persona. In general, you want a relaxed face which means no furrowed forehead/eyebrows and no fake smiles. You’ll want to let your lips part as if you are effortlessly breathing.

FASHION AND PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER

The right photographer will be able to help you with all of this. The more comfortable you are with them, the better your images will turn out.

You can practice with friends, but I actually find that it can be a bit difficult because you’ll be even more shy around them. Working with someone you don’t have a history with means you get to start fresh. Plus, you may never see them again so you can just go for it!

The beauty about this photoshoot theme is that you can do it in your own home. We hope this helps inspire you to get in front of a camera!
