Fantastic Wedding Photographers and Where to Find Them: The Greater Toronto Area Edition

Harry Potter/J.K. Rowling jokes aside, finding the best wedding photographer in the Greater Toronto Area is a trying task. Maybe you think it’ll be a short stop; well Newt Scamander also thought his trip to New York (yes, I did it again), would be a quick one and look where that escalated. In all seriousness, just follow these steps to make the whole search process much easier!

Best Greater Toronto Area Wedding Photography

If you don’t think being able to trust your wedding photographer is one of the most important factors then go read Finding the Best Wedding Photographer in the Greater Toronto Area is Much Harder Than You Think first!

SHORTLIST AND THEN SHORTLIST SOME MORE

So what do you do to make sure you can trust your photographer?

There are several ways of figuring out whether you can trust your photographer. It may take a long time because, quite frankly, there are a huge selection of wedding photographers in the Greater Toronto Area. However, it’s necessary if you truly care about the photography service which will likely capture the greatest (read: most expensive) day (read: party) of your lives.

STYLE

The quickest start to shortlisting is to check out the photographer’s website and see if you like the style of their images.

Take a look at the poses, expressions, and compositions they capture. Are the photos static or dynamic; do they capture intense emotion or typical scenes; are they posed or candid; are they in black and white or colour; and what kind of feeling do you get when you see them?

PACKAGES AND PRICING

Packages typically aren’t difficult to find on their website, but the price can be. Some photographers choose to share all their package and specific pricing while others will put starting and/or average prices.

A helpful hint: sometimes pricing is tucked away on the “about” page or the “contact us” page.

There’s no shame in not knowing what your budget is or what exactly you want. When my fiancee at the time and I were looking for a wedding photographer we had a rough budget. The prices can very so much and that’s why price isn’t always a great shortlisting factor. It’s nice to keep a variety above and below your threshold so that you don’t misplace them from your list, never to find them again.

TRUST

Finally, here are some of the ways you can form an opinion on the trustworthiness of your wedding shortlist:

  • get to know them a little from their “about” page
  • read their blog to get insight into their personality
  • search for WeddingWire reviews and ratings
  • peruse their Google Business reviews (the photographer needs to have set up a Google Business account)
  • skim through their Facebook page reviews
  • check out their other social media sites like Instagram
  • read their responses to comments from clients and potential clients on public posts

Those won’t necessarily help you find the “one”, but it’ll hopefully help you weed out the bad ones and drastically shorten your search.

THE LAST STEP

The best thing you can do now is meet your shortlist in person or at least talk to them on the phone/Skype. There really is no substitute for your intuition when you communicate with a person in real life.
