I’ll be the first to say that photo sessions are unique, meaningful gifts which are great for that special lady in your life. However, in conversation I’ve heard about a husband giving his wife a boudoir session as a gift. The moment I heard about it so many red flags went off in my mind. Whether you’re a husband, wife, partner, boyfriend, or girlfriend let me give you some things to consider before you gift a boudoir session to your significant other.
WHY A BOUDOIR SESSION
First of all let’s talk about why you want to give your wife, girlfriend, partner, or significant other a boudoir session. Is it something they asked for? If so…well…I guess you should stop reading and just book one!
Okay…so for everyone else this boudoir session may be a selfish gift whether you’re conscious of it or not. Perhaps you want some spine-tingling images of her because you think she’s the most beautiful woman you’ve ever seen. Although that’s great, let’s make sure we think about the person who’ll be getting this gift.
The very best reason to get her a boudoir session is because she has told you she wants one. Preferably, it’s because she wants it for herself and not because she thinks it would be something you’d like because…well…then you’re just buying a gift for her to give as a gift to you. Right?
JUST DON’T…
So this easily leads to reasons why you shouldn’t give her a boudoir session:
- you were told she would never want to do a boudoir shoot (or similar)
- she doesn’t like that sort of look
- she prefers herself with all her clothes on…even around you
- it’s really just for you
- she’s not currently comfortable with the way she looks (not even glimpses of confidence)
Now…if you really aren’t sure you can always ask her opinion on boudoir photography. You can just give it to her next year.
